3 people were killed and over 80 others were wounded in yesterday's demonstrations, and according to eyewitnesses; many Christians' owned shops and jewelry stores located on Isis street, Ragheb Street and in Ghorbal district were looted and/ or set on fire , many vehicles were also set on fire including police vehicles and 3 fire trucks
Security forces were chasing demonstrators from one street to another when demonstrators wanted to raid into 2 other Coptic churches in Ghorbal district.
Demonstrations have come to an end on Saturday morning , with heavy police presence in many districts of Alexandria
There is a strong belief among many moderate Muslims and Christians that State Security Intelligence instigated the demonstrations on October 13, 2005 when radical Muslims went to their headquarters in Alexandria complaining about the distribution of a CD of a play that took place 2 years ago at St. George church, which they viewed as derogatory to Islam and instead of trying to see what's on the CD they told the radicals to "Take revenge for your faith by yourselves".
Al Dustor Egyptian newspaper published a report revealing the involvement of the Egyptian State Security Intelligence (SSI) in Alexandria in instigating the crowd on October 14th, 2005
The Coptic church is still adhering to its position that it will not provide an apology as there was nothing wrong in the play as they say.
Copts also tolerate the constant attacks and smearing of their faith through the loud speakers of mosques all over Egypt. Many Imams of Egyptian mosques use the loud speakers as a tool to let their frustration out on Christians by calling them names and associating them with Zionism and the Crusades. Jews are also referred to as descendants of apes and pigs.
* (The crowd chanting: Allah is greatest, This is an "infidel" government, other chants not included in these segments were" There is no God but Allah, Christians are the enemies of Allah)
