A Copt named for governor of Quina

Egyptian president named a Coptic Christian as the governor of Quina province (Quina Governorate) in Upper Egypt

General Magdi Ayoub Iskandar was the only Copt among 26 governors of Egyptian provinces who were sworn in on January 1st, 2006

Many Copts described the move as a “ positive step in the right direction” and urged the Egyptian president to follow on the same path to end an era of exclusion of the Copts from holding high ranking posts.

That is wonderful news. Hopefully he will be an effective Governor who brings the values of democracy to his governoate.

Great news!

Let us pray for General Iskander and refrain from putting him under the microscope!

On the other hand, I am rather sad that we, the Copts of Egypt, are shouting out with joy, and almost dancing in the streets, because one, and only one, among the many appointed governors, is Coptic.

These are great news, unless some radicals disrupt his work. The people of Qena are very tradition and straight in their dealing with one another. Respect is one of their best traits. Let us hope that the winds of freedom touch every corner of the stagnant societies of the Middle East. Freedom and liberty are some of the basic human rights of everyone.
The Copts used to pasha and Beih in the old good days.
May God blesses Egypt and the Egyptians

but how many ministers this time? ONE! how many elected:MPs? ONE!
so???

I think it's a political move that really means little. It will only appease things. There was previously a Christian governor in S. Sinai.

If 10 million Copts could not secure ONE candidate, then no one else to blame than ourselves.
We need to be active and motivate our people. 1400 years under Islamic brutality had transformed our people into slaves. The road to equality of all Egyptians had started, and by God grace I will do my best to bring that dream to my fellow Egyptians.
God bless America and Egypt.
